Business Development and Operations Strategist/Chief of Staff

The Business Development and Operations Strategist will work cross-functionally across strategic and operational functions to drive strategy for existing and potential clients, support senior management and keep the trains running on time by project managing our client teams. You’ll also help drive internal and business development strategy, staying on top of industry trends and working closely with the Founding Principal to source and pitch potential new clients.

More senior applicants will also be considered for a broader Chief of Staff role.

Responsibilities:

  • Enable scale for our Founding Principal by ensuring that vision and culture is developed and communicated across the team; act as a conduit for information across the organization.

  • Hold team accountable by setting and enforcing deadlines, project managing complex tasks to get them over the finish line.

  • Prepare high-quality, insightful briefings and develop purpose-driven agendas for all team and client meetings.

  • Drive and project manage internal strategy on wide-ranging topics including new product development, hiring/recruitment and growth.

  • Prepare business development materials including pitch decks and proposals, and attend pitch meetings with C-suite executives.

  • Work closely with Founding Principal’s Executive Assistant to manage prioritization of scheduling and meetings, and demonstrate clear instincts for prioritizing when situations should be elevated to the Founding Principal.

  • Coordinate internal planning processes and presentations, including our annual All Hands meeting, “Stu U” learning lunches and more.

  • Identify and assume ownership of cross-functional special projects that don’t have a clear organizational home.

Required Qualifications:

  • You have 1-4 years relevant work experience; more senior applicants will be considered for a Chief of Staff position.

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree or more.

  • You are calm under pressure and thrive in fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous work environments, with the ability to identify and solve problems in real time.

  • You’re exceedingly proactive and are good at seeing around corners.

  • You’re discreet with sensitive and confidential information.

  • You have experience shepherding multiple, simultaneous projects to completion.

  • You have an entrepreneurial attitude that is equal parts determined and humble.

Junior Research and Media Strategist

The Junior Strategist will assist our team in providing media strategy and corporate intelligence service to a diverse range of clients, from startups and advocacy groups to investment funds and C-suite executives. You’ll be expected to work cross-functionally to help draft written content, track media narratives, navigate open-source records and follow paper and money trails.

The ideal candidate will be a strong writer with a keen interest in politics, media, tech and business. You need not have a research or communications background, but you should be a self-starter interested in gaining exposure to a variety of industries and internal functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft and revise op-eds, press releases, social media posts and other written products.

  • Monitor and track media narratives for our clients in news outlets and on social media.

  • Develop savvy press lists and draft pitches for major client initiatives.

  • Track down records, file Freedom of Information requests and analyze qualitative data.

  • Provide support for business development activities as necessary, including preparing briefing materials for Founding Principal and researching new client targets

Required Qualifications:

  • You have 0-2 years of experience with a strong background in English, political science, communications or a related field.

  • You can write concisely and powerfully and adapt your writing for different platforms and audiences.

  • You have an entrepreneurial attitude that is equal parts determined and humble.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • You have at least one semester of experience in an office setting, preferably one related to politics, research or communications.

  • You have proficiency in resources like LexisNexis, campaign finance databases, court records and other online databases.
